Artist's Statement
In creating these works, I aim to counter my seriousness around art-making, and consequently around the perception of aesthetic objects. Within these pieces, the drawings represent a deliberate, focused, and formal method of image-making that embodies my ingrained approach to art and praxis. In juxtaposing these renderings with whimsical collaged elements, I am encouraging an amused and light-hearted response from myself and from the viewer. This sense of enjoyment and levity was a crucial requirement in making these works, as a means of distancing myself from arbitrarily inflated conceptualism often encountered in contemporary art.
